well this really neat blog is dedicated to just that. yep, photographing all the really cool photographic equipment that is being toted around by Japans amateur photographers. young, old doesnt matter. what matters is their insanely cool cameras. Leica seems to own Japan by the way. it isnt Pentax, thats for sure!

this is taken directly from the post over on PentaxForums it was posted by a friend and professional nature and wildlife photographer Marc Langille. it is his plea for votes for a very, very good cause and I would like anyone who reads this to help support this cause. I have already done so myself, and would appreciate anyone elses help in making this journey come true.
Everyone,
I’ve wanted desperately to find funding to do my own conservation project for some time now, and many are closed doors. I stumbled upon an opportunity for me to become more involved in making an impact in the world around us. I have prepared my entry for this contest: Name Your Dream Assignment Home
Microsoft and Lenovo are putting up money and a high end laptop in this contest. The winner receives $50,000 for the budget/travel/equipment and a Lenovo W700ds workstation 17″ laptop. Again, there is no prize money in this contest – it is for equipment, travel and logistics. I have posted my entry and it’s my hope that you believe in my abilities as a photographer and will consider voting for it. Your votes do not determine the winner! If I make it into the top 20 ideas in terms of public votes, then my entry goes to the judging panel.
Here is my entry: Name Your Dream Assignment :: Vanishing Resources: Earth’s Moment of TruthYou have a chance to stay involved with this project. Part of the winner’s obligation is to report regularly via a blog on the assignment while out in the field. The potential to have an impact is significant. Make no mistake: this is not a vacation – this is personal sacrifice, long hours and potentially difficult work. Please pass the word!
Please leave a comment if you are comfortable doing that – this also pushes up my entry on the “most commented” list.
Public voting ends April 3rd, so please consider voting for this worthwhile cause!!
Sincerely,
Marc
since purchasing my lovely Japanese import, Asahi Pentax SV (this due to an interest sparked by a fun little adventure I am set to take part in with a group of like minded individuals on the pentax forums) Sightseeing Screwmount. my spotmatic has taken the back seat in my analogue photography adventures. this has led me to the need for a light meter, as im not so good at the old ’sunny 16′ rule. nor am I very fond of its restrictive use limiting success with indoor photography, I sought out a good semi-modern analogue light meter. (don’t much care for the digital ones) I wonder why? well I got a wonderful deal on a Sekonic Studio Deluxe II L-398 M. on ebay of all places! see ebay isn’t so bad.. is it? what I got is the slightly older, near identical twin to the current Studio Deluxe III 398A. its a wonderfully crafted Japanese made (if that means anything?) hand held incident/reflected light meter. it has so far proved to be very accurate and I have even used it with my digital’s. it uses a selenium photo-electric cell so no need for batteries. this was a must for me because my SV of course has no battery, and retaining the completely battery free operation of both camera and meter was very important. after about a week of use, I am very much hooked on this little guy, and I believe it has further blurred the line between my modern and ‘vintage’ equipment as I will be using this from now on whether I am using a digital or film camera. I am not much of a product reviewer (as I am a user not a measurbator) but If you are looking for an easy to use, inexpensive (as compared to the current model) accurate light meter you cannot go wrong with this Sekonic. though I have a sneaking suspicion that would apply to all Sekonics.
