my SV gets a new partner
since purchasing my lovely Japanese import, Asahi Pentax SV (this due to an interest sparked by a fun little adventure I am set to take part in with a group of like minded individuals on the pentax forums) Sightseeing Screwmount. my spotmatic has taken the back seat in my analogue photography adventures. this has led me to the need for a light meter, as im not so good at the old ‘sunny 16’ rule. nor am I very fond of its restrictive use limiting success with indoor photography, I sought out a good semi-modern analogue light meter. (don’t much care for the digital ones) I wonder why? well I got a wonderful deal on a Sekonic Studio Deluxe II L-398 M. on ebay of all places! see ebay isn’t so bad.. is it? what I got is the slightly older, near identical twin to the current Studio Deluxe III 398A. its a wonderfully crafted Japanese made (if that means anything?) hand held incident/reflected light meter. it has so far proved to be very accurate and I have even used it with my digital’s. it uses a selenium photo-electric cell so no need for batteries. this was a must for me because my SV of course has no battery, and retaining the completely battery free operation of both camera and meter was very important. after about a week of use, I am very much hooked on this little guy, and I believe it has further blurred the line between my modern and ‘vintage’ equipment as I will be using this from now on whether I am using a digital or film camera. I am not much of a product reviewer (as I am a user not a measurbator) but If you are looking for an easy to use, inexpensive (as compared to the current model) accurate light meter you cannot go wrong with this Sekonic. though I have a sneaking suspicion that would apply to all Sekonics.
